Philippines Breakthrough Era Marks Robust Economic Growth
President Marcos has led the Philippines into a breakthrough era characterized by sustained and inclusive economic growth. This significant milestone was highlighted by House Speaker Martin Romualdez, who pointed to the World Bank’s latest economic forecast as a clear sign that the country is progressing steadily.
“The World Bank’s latest forecast is more than just good news—it is a clear validation that our country is moving in the right direction. We are no longer just recovering. We are rising. We are breaking through,” Romualdez, Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) president, affirmed.
According to the World Bank’s June 2025 Economic Update, the Philippines ranks as the second-fastest growing economy in Southeast Asia. The nation posted a strong 5.6 percent gross domestic product (GDP) growth in 2024, with promising projections extending through 2027. Vietnam holds the top spot in the region.
Inclusive Growth Benefits Every Filipino
Romualdez emphasized that this breakthrough era is not limited to a select few. “This breakthrough is not just for the few—it is for every Filipino who dreams of a better life,” he said. He stressed that growth should be measured not only by statistics but by how it improves the daily lives of Filipinos.
“Ang ibig sabihin ng breakthrough na ito: mas maraming trabaho para sa ating manggagawa, mas mataas ang kita ng maliliit na negosyo, mas maraming oportunidad para sa mga estudyante at kabataan, at mas magaan ang buhay para sa bawat pamilyang Pilipino,” Romualdez added.
The Speaker attributed this progress to the Marcos administration’s Bagong Pilipinas agenda. In collaboration with a responsive and reform-oriented Congress, this agenda laid a strong foundation through strategic policy reforms and investments in human capital.
Legislative Measures Fueling the Breakthrough Era
Romualdez highlighted the crucial role Congress played in passing legislation that nurtured economic growth. Key measures include:
- Reforms to ease doing business, supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and job creators
- Large-scale infrastructure investments to boost nationwide connectivity and logistics
- Expanded aid programs for farmers, fisherfolk, and rural enterprises
- Digital transformation policies aimed at bridging the urban-rural divide
- Legislation on education, healthcare, and social protection to strengthen long-term human capital
“We are not just growing fast—we are growing right. Congress made sure our laws open doors for ordinary Filipinos, not just the elite. That is the breakthrough we fought for,” Romualdez declared.
New Phase of Confidence and Capability
The Speaker also noted that the Philippines is entering a new phase defined by confidence and capability rather than crisis. “From being vulnerable to shocks, we are now ready to compete, to expand, and to lift our people to new heights.”
He assured the public that the House of Representatives will continue to champion pro-people, pro-growth legislation aimed at reducing inequality, promoting social mobility, and empowering Filipino families.
