MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines may experience two to three tropical cyclones within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this July, local weather authorities announced on Tuesday. This forecast comes as part of the regular monitoring efforts during the peak cyclone season.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Obed Badrina shared this update during the agency’s 5 a.m. public weather briefing. “July typically records one of the highest tropical cyclone counts yearly,” Badrina explained, emphasizing the season’s intensity.
On average, three tropical cyclones either develop or enter the country in July, making it a critical month for disaster preparedness. These tropical storms usually track across parts of Luzon or curve toward the northeastern region of the country.

Badrina further noted that the current low-pressure area (LPA) being monitored within the PAR is expected to follow a path similar to past storms. “It could either cross Luzon or, given its proximity to the eastern section of the island, possibly recurve,” he said.
The LPA was last situated roughly 650 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezon. It carries a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression, signaling the possibility of intensification in the coming days.
