Philippines National Day Celebration Showcases Rich Culture
The Philippines National Day celebration at Expo 2025 Osaka highlighted the country’s vibrant heritage and innovative spirit. The Department of Tourism (DOT) led the event, aiming to elevate the Philippines’ global profile through a dynamic blend of tradition and modernity.
DOT Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco, representing President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., warmly welcomed dignitaries and guests at the Ray Garden on June 7. She emphasized the importance of cultural exchange and international cooperation, stating, “Today, the Philippines presents itself before the world with the enduring strength of a nation rooted in heritage, reaching forward with hope.” She also expressed gratitude to the Japanese government and Expo organizers for the invaluable opportunity to promote Filipino identity worldwide.
The celebration began with a grand parade featuring traditional dances and cultural performances that reflected the diversity and spirit of the Filipino people. This was followed by a formal program attended by officials from both Japan and the Philippines.
Innovative Philippine Pavilion Draws Thousands
Under Administrative Order No. 7, the DOT heads the Philippine Organizing Committee, with the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) Philippines serving as secretariat. In collaboration with Architect Carlo Calma and global design firm Tellart, they crafted the Philippine Pavilion titled “Nature, Culture, and Community: Woven Together for a Better Future.”
In just two months, the Pavilion attracted over 300,000 visitors, emerging as one of Expo 2025’s top destinations. It offers immersive experiences that link heritage with innovation, featuring AI-powered photo booths, digital art displays, Hilot wellness spaces, a Habi gift shop showcasing Filipino crafts, and a Hain kiosk serving authentic Filipino cuisine.
Secretary Garcia-Frasco described the Pavilion as a platform for cultural dialogue, adding, “Guided by the vision of our President, it has been our mission to bring the Filipino identity to the global stage—not as a single thread, but as a vibrant tapestry woven from centuries of influence.”
Celebrating Weaving Traditions and Cultural Unity
A highlight of the program was Hinabing Hiraya (Woven Imagination), a three-part performance curated by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). This artistic display celebrated the country’s weaving traditions as powerful symbols of identity and unity.
“Each thread tells a story of ancestry, identity, and our shared hopes,” said TPB Chief Operating Officer Marga Nograles, emphasizing weaving’s role in the Filipino cultural narrative.
The event concluded with a heartfelt rendition of “Pilipinas Kong Mahal,” which received warm applause from international guests and delegates.
Among the attendees were Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition Commissioner General Koji Haneda, Secretary General Hiroyuki Ishige, Osaka City Mayor Hideyuki Yokoyama, Philippine Ambassador to Japan Mylene J. Garcia-Albano, and Senator Nancy Binay. Haneda praised the pavilion for harmonizing natural beauty, cultural depth, and digital creativity, expressing hope that it would foster greater international appreciation of the Philippines.
With the Expo running until October 13, Secretary Garcia-Frasco invited the global community to revisit the Pavilion for upcoming events, including Philippine Week, ASEAN Day, and investment forums designed to strengthen cultural and economic ties.
