Philippines Strengthens Peace and Sovereignty Amid Rising Threats
MANILA, Philippines — In his fourth State of the Nation Address, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. emphasized that the Philippines has significantly enhanced its preparedness, vigilance, and self-defense measures in response to new threats challenging the country’s peace and sovereignty.
Although the President did not specify the exact nature of these threats, he highlighted the nation’s ongoing commitment to protecting its interests. “Nevertheless, we continue to exercise restraint and remain patient, especially in guarding our entire archipelago and safeguarding our national interests,” he said in Filipino.
Building Confidence Through Stronger Alliances
President Marcos remarked that the country’s confidence has grown due to the strengthening of its alliances. He noted that the Philippines now has more partners ready to support it during critical times, bolstering its security stance amid global geopolitical tensions.
Recently, the United States reaffirmed its commitment to assist the Philippines by providing defense and security support. This includes protection against possible armed attacks in the West Philippine Sea, a region currently facing increased geopolitical pressure, sources said.
As the Philippines navigates these challenges, it continues to prioritize peaceful and patient approaches, balancing vigilance with restraint. The government remains dedicated to safeguarding national sovereignty while fostering international cooperation to ensure stability in the region.
