Philippines Will Never Retreat in Defending Territory
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. made it clear on Friday that the Philippines will never back down when it comes to protecting its territory. He emphasized this in a speech during the Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas meeting de avance held in Mandaluyong City. “Kailanman ay di tayo uurong sa pagtatanggol sa teritoryo ng Pilipinas,” Marcos declared firmly.
He also stressed that the natural resources of the country should benefit Filipinos alone. This statement comes amid recent tensions in Philippine waters near Bajo de Masinloc.
Chinese Vessels’ Aggressive Moves Near Bajo de Masinloc
According to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), two Chinese People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) ships and one China Coast Guard (CCG) vessel carried out aggressive and unsafe maneuvers against Philippine vessels near Bajo de Masinloc.
On May 5, the Philippine Navy’s BRP Emilio Jacinto (PS35) was on routine maritime patrol supporting the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). During this operation, the Chinese PLAN Jiangkai II-class frigates with bow numbers 554 and 573, along with CCG vessel 5403, engaged in risky behavior.
Threats to Philippine Navy Vessel Safety
The AFP noted that these aggressive actions endangered the safety of the Philippine Navy ship and violated international rules designed to prevent collisions at sea. Such reckless moves by Chinese maritime forces drew serious concern from the AFP.
President Marcos has remained steadfast, assuring the Filipino people that the country will not surrender even an inch of its territory to any foreign power. This firm stance highlights the government’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty.
Commitment to Philippine Territory and Resources
Beyond defending the territory, Marcos reiterated that the country’s resources must be preserved for the benefit of Filipinos. This message underscores the importance of protecting not only land but also the wealth within Philippine waters.
Samantala, the government continues to monitor activities in disputed areas closely. Bukod dito, efforts to strengthen maritime patrols and international cooperation are being prioritized to ensure national security.
