Plastic Trash Sparks Fire on Kalayaan Avenue

Plastic Trash Sparks Fire on Kalayaan Avenue

A piece of plastic trash that fell on an electric post triggered a fire and short circuit along Kalayaan Avenue in Makati City on the evening of June 6. This plastic trash incident caused significant disruption in the area, leading to a power outage that affected many residents.

The event was first reported as a transformer explosion around 7:30 p.m. However, sources clarified that the actual cause was a piece of plastic debris that dropped from a nearby building onto the high-tension wire. This contact ignited the fire and caused the short circuit.

Immediate Response and Power Restoration Efforts

Authorities acted quickly to cut the power supply in the affected zone, preventing further damage and ensuring public safety. The power outage lasted for several hours, inconveniencing local residents and businesses along Kalayaan Avenue.

By around 11 p.m., electric company personnel managed to repair the damaged post. Power was fully restored by 2 a.m. on June 7. Local officials noted the swift response helped minimize the impact of the incident.
