Historic Achievement at PMA Siklab Laya Class of 2025 Graduation
Baguio City witnessed a landmark moment as Jessie R. Ticar Jr. graduated as valedictorian from the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Siklab Laya Class of 2025. Immediately following the commencement exercises, he was commissioned a second lieutenant alongside 265 fellow graduates. This milestone highlights the dedication and excellence that define the PMA.
Ticar made history by earning a general weighted average of 9.52, the highest ever recorded at the academy since its founding in 1898. His outstanding performance placed him among the elite, becoming only the fourth cadet to graduate summa cum laude in the institution’s long history.
Commitment to Duty and Loyalty to the Constitution
In a post-ceremony interview, Second Lieutenant Ticar shared his foremost mission as he embarks on his military career. He emphasized the importance of unwavering loyalty to the Constitution and adherence to the chain of command, principles instilled by the PMA.
“Ang pinakamahalagang misyon, I think, is for me to remain and stay loyal to the Constitution and for me to just follow the chain of command gaya ng tinuro ng PMA,” he said.
As the first in his family to enter military service, Ticar described his journey to the academy as a manifestation of divine will. He credited his parents’ sacrifices and support—his mother a vendor at Quezon City Hall and his father a taxi driver before falling ill—as the foundation of his success. “Everything I’ve achieved is because of their hard work and love,” he reflected.
Maintaining Neutrality Amid Political Challenges
Recognizing the current political environment in the country, Ticar expressed a strong desire to remain apolitical. “Dahil sa mga political discourse, I want to remain na hindi pumapanig sa kung kanino-kaninong political groups or interest groups,” he explained.
He reaffirmed his focus on fulfilling his responsibilities as a young officer in the Philippine Army. “Just doing my roles and responsibility as a young officer of the Philippine Army,” he added.
Presidential Praise and a Pledge to Serve the Nation
During the commencement exercises, President Ferdinand Marcos commended the perseverance and dedication demonstrated by Ticar in reaching the highest honor in his class. Ticar’s valedictory speech further highlighted his gratitude and dedication to national service.
“To the Filipino people, this is all for you. Ngayong araw ang pagsisimula ng pagkilala at pagpapahalaga sa bawat buwis at pagpapakasakit na inilaan ninyo sa amin,” he declared, acknowledging the sacrifices of the Filipino people.
He concluded with a powerful vow: “Handa na po kaming magsilbi, handa na po kaming tuparin ang aming sinumpaang pangako, handang-handa na kaming ipagtanggol ang Inang Bayan, mangahulugan man ng aming buhay kung ang katumbas nito ay kalayaan ng ating bayan.” This pledge embodies the spirit of commitment and readiness to protect the country at all costs.
