PNP and GAB Renew Partnership to Combat Illegal Gambling
MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) have renewed their partnership to crack down on illegal gambling. This renewed collaboration comes as both agencies signed a memorandum of agreement at Camp Crame on June 19, 2025.
The law enforcement and regulatory bodies committed to intensify efforts against unlawful gambling activities. The PNP pledged to deploy personnel for surveillance, suspect apprehension, and other operations upon the request of the GAB Anti-Illegal Gambling Unit. Key support will come from the PNP’s Anti-Cybercrime Group and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.
Joint Efforts and Intelligence Sharing
On the other hand, GAB will provide valuable intelligence gathered from its field operatives to support these joint operations. Both organizations agreed to maintain close coordination through their designated secretariats and focal officers. This alignment aims to ensure a streamlined and responsive approach to tackling illegal gambling in professional sports and amusement games.
Sources noted that the partnership reflects a stronger commitment to protect regulated gambling and uphold the integrity of professional sports. The PNP’s involvement will enhance ground operations, while GAB’s intelligence resources will improve targeting and enforcement efforts.
PNP Chief Emphasizes Urgency
Since assuming office earlier this June, PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III highlighted the need for an urgent crackdown on illegal gambling. He underscored the importance of supporting licensed and regulated gambling activities to safeguard the industry and prevent criminal elements from exploiting it.
“We must act decisively to protect the lawful gaming sector while dismantling illegal operations,” local officials said, reflecting the chief’s priorities.
Looking Ahead
As the partnership between the PNP and GAB strengthens, the public can expect more coordinated actions against illegal gambling. These efforts aim to promote fair play, protect consumers, and uphold the rule of law in the gaming sector.
