PNP Chief Clarifies No Authorization for Fitness Coach
MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III has firmly denied authorizing any fitness instructor to lead the 93-day weight loss program for the entire police force. This clarification comes amid circulating reports linking a fitness coach to the program.
In a memorandum circular dated June 21 and released to the media on Monday, Gen. Torre emphasized that the weight loss program was initiated solely by the Police Community Affairs and Development Group (PCADG) and involved only its personnel, not the whole PNP.
“In this regard, PNP personnel are directed to refrain from sharing misleading content. The CNP has not authorized any fitness instructor to primarily lead a weight loss program for the entire PNP,” the memorandum stated. It also urged social media officers to be cautious in posting information to prevent the spread of misinformation that could confuse the public.
Background of the Weight Loss Program
Last week, a social media post from the PNP announced that fitness vlogger Rendon Labador was tapped to lead a weight loss program for police officers. The initiative, according to various sources, is a project of the PCADG following Gen. Torre’s directive to enforce strict weight standards among police personnel.
Labador reportedly said that PCADG Director Brig. Gen. Marvin Saro invited him to lead the program. He also claimed to have agreed to participate free of charge, bringing along fellow coaches and nutritionists to support the effort.
According to Labador, an initial group of 150 police officers was set to begin the program during its launch at Camp Crame on Wednesday afternoon. However, Gen. Torre’s statement clarifies that this program is limited to PCADG personnel and does not extend to the entire police force.
Ensuring Accurate Information Within the PNP
The PNP chief’s memorandum also reminded personnel to avoid sharing unverified information on social media platforms. This directive aims to maintain clarity and prevent unnecessary confusion among members of the force and the public.
With the growing presence of online content, the PNP leadership stresses accountability and accuracy in communication, especially regarding programs that affect its personnel.
