PNP Chief Returns to Samar for Police Office Inauguration
TACLOBAN CITY, LEYTE, Philippines – Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III made a significant return to Samar province on Monday, June 30, to lead the inauguration of the new Samar Police Provincial Office (SPPO) headquarters in Barangay Pupua, Catbalogan City. This visit marked his first official appearance in the Eastern Visayas region since his appointment as the country’s top police official by President Marcos on June 2, 2025.
Gen. Torre once served as the provincial police director in Samar from 2017 to 2019. His return to the province underscores the importance of the new facility and the ongoing commitment to strengthening police operations in the area.
State-of-the-Art Headquarters Enhances Police Operations
The newly inaugurated three-story building, completed in November 2024 at a cost of ₱29.39 million, represents a major upgrade in Samar’s law enforcement infrastructure. The facility is designed to improve operational efficiency and provide a more conducive working environment for officers tackling persistent challenges such as insurgency and criminal activities in the province.
Local leaders noted that the modernized headquarters reflects the government’s dedication to enhancing peace and order in Samar. “This new headquarters stands as a testament not only to our progress in infrastructure, but also to the ever-advancing professionalism and preparedness of the police force in the province,” Gen. Torre said during the inauguration.
Leadership Praised for Public Safety Efforts
The PNP chief also commended Col. Antonietto Eric Mendoza, SPPO director, for leading a proactive police force that prioritizes public safety while fostering strong community relationships. This approach is critical in maintaining stability and trust between law enforcers and residents.
Gen. Torre’s visit was warmly welcomed by key figures including Police Regional Office 8 Director Brig. Gen. Jay Cumigad and Samar Governor Sharee Ann Tan. The event also included the oath-taking ceremony of Governor Tan and other newly elected provincial and local officials, highlighting the PNP’s ongoing partnership with local government units to sustain peace and security throughout the region.
