PNP Deploys 37,000 Police for Opening of Classes Safety
The Philippine National Police (PNP) is set to deploy around 37,000 policemen to secure the opening of classes on June 16. With millions of students expected to return to schools, the PNP is ramping up security measures to ensure a safe environment.
PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo confirmed that uniformed officers will increase patrols and maintain a visible presence on roads leading to and from schools. They will also staff police assistance desks to help students, parents, and school personnel.
“We are ready (for the opening of classes). We will be deploying 37,000 police officers to ensure the safety of our students on June 16,” Fajardo said. Among those deployed, 5,000 policemen will specifically man the assistance desks.
Enhanced Police Visibility to Boost Student Safety
The opening of classes serves as a crucial test for the PNP’s quick response capabilities. PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre has pledged to maximize police visibility by closing all police boxes and community precincts. This strategy aims to focus resources on road patrols and community presence.
According to local leaders, the visible presence of police patrols and vehicles with blinking lights helps deter crime. Fajardo explained that more mobile patrols will be stationed near schools and surrounding areas to maintain order and security.
The Department of Education announced that public schools will officially open on June 16, while private schools may follow suit. This coordinated effort aims to provide a safe and orderly start to the academic year amid ongoing safety concerns.
