PNP Sets Up Police Assistance Desks Across Schools
The Philippine National Police (PNP) is launching a major security initiative by establishing more than 5,000 police assistance desks nationwide. This move aims to protect the estimated 27 million students returning to classes starting Monday, June 16. PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III confirmed that a total of 37,740 policemen will be deployed to secure both public and private schools throughout the country.
These police assistance desks will be strategically placed near school premises and staffed by 10,759 officers ready to respond quickly to calls from students, teachers, and parents. Torre emphasized that the desks will serve as immediate points of contact for any safety concerns.
Comprehensive Police Deployment for School Safety
Besides the assistance desks, 10,687 officers will conduct mobile patrols, while 16,366 will perform foot patrols to increase police visibility in busy and critical areas. “The safety of our students, teachers, and school staff remains our utmost priority,” Torre said. “We want to ensure that our children return to school without fear or harm. Our police officers will be in every possible area to provide protection, guidance, and support.”
He described the initiative, called Oplan Balik-Eskwela, as more than just a deployment plan: “It is our expression of commitment to nurture an environment where learning can thrive peacefully. We will continue to stand guard for the Filipino youth, rain or shine.”
Regional Deployment Highlights and Public Warnings
According to data shared by local sources, Central Visayas will have the highest deployment with 7,366 personnel. This is followed by the Bicol Region with 2,962 and Eastern Visayas with 2,376 officers. In Mindanao, nearly 3,000 policemen will secure 657 schools within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region.
In Metro Manila, the National Capital Region Police Office director, Maj. Gen. Anthony Aberin, confirmed that over 5,400 policemen will be deployed to ensure the safety of schools across the metropolis.
Torre also issued a stern warning against individuals attempting to recruit students into militant groups: “These threats will be dealt with swiftly and without compromise.”
He urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious behavior or safety issues immediately to the nearest police station or through the PNP’s 24/7 hotlines. This collective effort is essential for a safe and smooth start to the school year.
