PNP in Talks to Prepare Marcos’ 4th Sona
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is already in talks to prepare for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fourth State of the Nation Address (Sona). This crucial preparation aims to ensure a smooth and peaceful event as the nation anticipates the president’s speech.
Although the police have not yet finalized the deployment plans, PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III confirmed that coordination with the House of Representatives’ sergeant-at-arms and other relevant agencies is underway. “We will ensure that the Sona will be peaceful,” Torre said during a press conference at Camp Crame.
Heightened Preparations Amid Political Developments
Amid the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, the PNP is taking a cautious approach. When asked about special measures for the event, Torre stated, “We are going to prepare with the worst in mind, but of course, we also hope for the best.” This reflects the police’s commitment to maintaining order despite potential challenges.
The fourth Sona of President Marcos is scheduled for July 28, marking the opening of the 20th Congress. Authorities are working diligently to ensure that the event proceeds without incident, reflecting the importance of this annual address in Philippine politics.
Local leaders noted that the initial steps in preparation include detailed security planning and inter-agency coordination. The PNP’s proactive stance aims to safeguard the venue and the public during this significant political event.
