PNP Invites Vice President Sara Duterte to Police Headquarters
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has extended a warm invitation to Vice President Sara Duterte to visit their headquarters. The PNP aims to demonstrate the crucial role of deploying policemen in their quick response operations. This invitation comes amid the Vice President’s criticism of the PNP’s intensified police visibility efforts instead of fully utilizing modern technology.
During a recent briefing, a Palace Press Officer shared a statement from PNP Chief Police General Nicolas Torre III in response to Duterte’s remarks. The chief expressed appreciation for the Vice President’s insights on improving policing strategies to better serve the community.
“We have already integrated technologies such as drones and CCTV cameras in our operations,” the statement said. “These tools provide a strong foundation for our quick response capabilities.”
Furthermore, the PNP welcomes Vice President Duterte to visit and observe firsthand how deploying officers in key areas supports their rapid response teams. The police department respects all credible opinions and remains open to constructive feedback.
Debate on Police Visibility and Technology Use
Vice President Duterte voiced her concerns during an interview in Pampanga, describing the increased police visibility as outdated. She questioned the logic of placing officers in areas already monitored by CCTV cameras, which operate nonstop.
“CCTVs don’t get tired. So if your CCTV runs 24 hours, why are you still putting police officers there when they can’t even chase down all those [criminals],” she said.
She urged the PNP to modernize its approach by leveraging available technology instead of relying on traditional patrols. “We’re still stuck in the 1980s, 1970s mindset of having police patrol the streets,” Duterte added.
PNP’s Response to Criticism
In response, the PNP emphasized their ongoing efforts to blend technology with manpower. They highlighted that while technology plays a vital role, the presence of policemen in strategic locations remains essential for quick intervention.
The PNP’s invitation to Vice President Duterte reflects their openness to dialogue and collaboration with public officials to enhance public safety. They reiterated their commitment to adopting innovative methods while ensuring strong community policing.
