Reward Announced for Information
In a swift move to catch the suspect behind the killing of veteran journalist and former Kalibo mayor Johnny Dayang, the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced a P500,000 reward. This bounty is offered for credible information that will lead to the suspect’s arrest.
Supporting the ongoing police operations, the Provincial Government of Aklan and the local government unit of Kalibo teamed up to offer the reward. They call on the public to come forward with any valuable leads.
Suspect Identified but Name Withheld
The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO 6) confirmed that local authorities have positively identified the suspect. However, the PNP has not yet revealed his identity. What is known is that the suspect is male.
Initial investigations show the suspect has a prior criminal record. Notably, he was arrested in May 2021 in Pasig City for illegal drug charges. This background adds urgency to the manhunt.
Justice on the Horizon
A case is now prepared to be filed against the suspect in connection with Dayang’s killing. Police General Rommel Marbil, PNP chief, assures the public that the police will not stop until justice is served.
“This is not just about one man—it’s about protecting press freedom and the truth,” Marbil emphasized. His statement underlines the broader significance of this case.
Details of the Incident
Johnny Dayang was shot inside his home in Kalibo at around 8 p.m. last Tuesday. Despite being rushed to Dr. Rafael S. Tumbokon Memorial Hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.
Authorities continue to exhaust all means to bring the suspect to justice. The call to the public is clear: anyone with information should come forward to help end this crime.
