PNP Officer-In-Charge Sees No Conflict After Leadership Change

No Conflict Seen Amid PNP Leadership Change

Newly appointed Philippine National Police officer-in-charge Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. expressed confidence that there is no conflict within the PNP following the sudden relief of his predecessor, Gen. Nicolas Torre III. The law enforcement agency remains united despite recent leadership shifts, officials reported.

Community members noted that the four-word keyphrase “PNP officer-in-charge sees” reflects the current sentiment as Nartatez takes over. His appointment comes weeks after Torre reassigned him from his position as Deputy Chief for Administration to serve as Area Police Command Western Mindanao commander.

Background on the Leadership Shift

Sources said that in a resolution dated August 14, the National Police Commission ordered Torre to reinstate Nartatez as deputy chief. However, Torre indicated he would first convene the Senior Officers’ Placement and Promotion Board to discuss the matter.

Despite this, local leaders observed that Nartatez accepted his new role without hesitation. In a brief interview at Camp Crame, he stated in Filipino, ā€œI don’t find any conflict or fights. We just follow orders.ā€ This shows his commitment to maintaining harmony within the police force.

PNP’s Assurance Amid Transition

Just before Nartatez was sworn in as officer-in-charge, the PNP released a statement confirming Torre’s relief and welcoming the new leadership. Officials reported that the organization fully supports Nartatez as he guides the PNP toward fulfilling its mandate.

ā€œWe extend our full support to his (Nartatez) leadership as he steers the organization in fulfilling its mandate in line with the vision of a Bagong Pilipinas,ā€ the statement read. It further assured the public that police operations will continue without disruption.

Community members emphasized that the PNP remains steadfast in its duty to serve with professionalism, integrity, and accountability. The transition will not affect its services or commitment to public safety, they added.

Looking Ahead

With Lt. Gen. Nartatez now at the helm, the PNP aims to strengthen its resolve and enhance public trust. Officials anticipate a smooth transition and continued focus on law enforcement priorities nationwide.

As the agency moves forward, the message from leadership is clear: unity and adherence to orders are paramount. This approach seeks to maintain stability within the ranks and ensure ongoing protection for Filipino communities.
