PNP Investigates AI Video Featuring Marcos Promoting Investment Scheme
The Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) has launched an investigation into an artificial intelligence (AI) video that falsely shows President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. endorsing an investment platform. This AI-generated video has been circulating online, misleading viewers with claims of a fast-paying investment opportunity allegedly linked to a government collaboration with Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla.
The circulating video uses advanced AI techniques to depict President Marcos promoting this investment platform, raising concerns about misinformation and potential fraud. Authorities are treating this seriously due to the possible damage to public trust and the reputation of high-profile individuals.
PNP-ACG Actions Against the Fake AI Video
Brigadier General Bernard Yang, director of the PNP-ACG, shared at the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum that the investigation is ongoing. “Our investigation here is ongoing,” he said. The police have already notified the social media platform hosting the video to preserve data and have requested the removal or deactivation of the post.
Yang emphasized that the President is not the only victim of such AI-generated fake videos. “In fact, our President is not the only one being victimized by this, but rather many other high-profile individuals,” he explained. The police are also working to identify the creators or distributors of the video for possible legal action.
Impact of AI-Generated Misinformation
This incident highlights the growing challenge of AI technology being used to create convincing but false content that can mislead the public. Experts warn that such videos can erode trust in government officials and contribute to the spread of misinformation.
Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and verify information from official sources before sharing content online. The PNP-ACG continues to monitor and respond to similar cases involving AI manipulation.
