PNP Investigates Former Witness Held in KJC
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) is currently examining allegations that a former Senate witness is being detained within the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC) premises. This religious group is led by Apollo Quiboloy, a preacher and ally of former President Duterte.
Senator Risa Hontiveros recently revealed that Michael Maurilio, also known by the alias “Rene,” reached out to her office claiming he was kidnapped and held captive at KJC’s Glory Mountain. Maurilio had previously accused Hontiveros of pressuring him to testify against the Dutertes and Quiboloy.
“We are reviewing the facts of the case as stated by the good senator,” PNP Chief General Nicolas Torre III said in a Tuesday interview at Camp Karingal in Quezon City. He added that an official statement will be released after the investigation concludes.
Details of the Kidnapping Allegation Surface
In a video that quickly circulated online, Maurilio alleged that Senator Hontiveros paid him one million pesos to testify against former President Rodrigo Duterte, Vice President Sara Duterte, and Apollo Quiboloy. However, Hontiveros clarified that Maurilio was the one who made the initial contact.
Maurilio, who worked as a landscaper at Glory Mountain until 2021, testified before the Senate panel on women in February 2024. He stated that he observed the Dutertes visiting the property and leaving with a bag containing firearms.
PNP’s Ongoing Inquiry
General Torre assured the public that the PNP is taking the claim seriously and is conducting a thorough inquiry into the matter. Authorities aim to verify Maurilio’s allegations and determine the truth behind the claim that he was held against his will in the KJC compound.
As the investigation continues, the PNP encourages anyone with additional information to come forward to aid in clarifying the situation.
