The Philippine National Police (PNP) has issued a stern warning against a text scammer falsely claiming to be acting chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. Officials reported that this fraudulent activity is misleading many unsuspecting individuals.
During a press briefing held at Camp Crame, PNP public information chief Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño highlighted the seriousness of the scam. The four-word keyphrase “text scammer pretending to” was emphasized early to alert the public about this ongoing threat.

Sources said the PNP’s directors for intelligence, comptrollership, investigations, and detective management have joined forces to investigate and put an end to this deceptive scheme. They urged the public to remain vigilant and verify information before responding to suspicious messages.
Community members noted that scammers often exploit the names of high-ranking officials to gain trust and manipulate victims. The PNP advised everyone not to entertain or respond to texts that ask for personal information or money.
