Drug Suspect Arrested in Airport Drug Chase
PAGADIAN CITY, ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR — Authorities arrested a drug suspect following a dramatic drug suspect arrest in airport drug chase on Saturday afternoon. Local village watchmen, known as tanod, on patrol in Barangay Muricay noticed suspicious activity near the airport road.
According to officials, two men appeared to be involved in an illegal drug transaction. Once spotted, the suspects fled in different directions. One discarded a sachet of suspected shabu, or methamphetamine, on the ground while the other attempted to escape by climbing over the airport’s perimeter fence.
Vigilant Watchmen Capture Suspect
The watchmen pursued the suspect who climbed the fence and caught him near the runway. They recovered another sachet of suspected meth hidden inside the suspect’s phone case. The quick actions of the tanod prevented the suspect’s escape.
Following the arrest, the watchmen coordinated with police officers stationed at a checkpoint in nearby Barangay Tiguma to take custody of the suspect.
Suspect Identified, Second Man Still at Large
The detained individual, identified only as Dodong, 27, from Barangay Kawit, was handed over to the police. Authorities are preparing formal charges against him. Meanwhile, the second man, initially identified as Gani, managed to escape and remains the subject of an ongoing pursuit operation.
Airport Operations Remain Unaffected
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines reported that the drug suspect arrest in airport drug chase caused no flight disruptions. Airport operations continued smoothly despite the incident.
Community members praised the vigilance of the tanod and police for their swift response, which ensured safety without interrupting airport services.
