Police Officer Arrested in Bulacan Recruitment Scam
Authorities arrested a police corporal in Bulacan for an alleged recruitment scam targeting individuals seeking overseas employment. The Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) reported the arrest, which took place on June 16 in Bocaue town.
The suspect and his accomplices reportedly impersonated recruiters from an international placement agency. They promised victims high-paying jobs abroad, charging over PHP 100,000 each for placement fees, including visa and airfare costs.
Victims Forced into Exploitative Work
However, the victims were never deployed overseas. Instead, they were coerced into working at a massage parlor in Pasay City. There, they faced threats and were forced to provide sexual services against their will.
IMEG clarified that the arrest resulted from a warrant issued by the Regional Trial Court Branch 112 in Pasay City. The charges include violations of Republic Act 9208, the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, and RA 8042, the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act.
Ongoing Investigation
Police have not disclosed further information about the victims, the number of accomplices involved, or the duration of the illegal operation. Authorities continue to investigate the case.
This incident highlights the dangers faced by Filipinos seeking work overseas and the importance of vigilance against fraudulent recruitment schemes.
