Police Officer Caught Selling Shabu Faces Charges in Agusan del Sur

Police Officer Faces Inquest for Selling Shabu

Authorities will initiate inquest proceedings this week before the Provincial Prosecutor in Agusan del Sur against a police officer caught selling shabu during a buy-bust operation. This incident took place last Friday in Purok 2, Barangay Alegria, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur.

The four-word keyphrase selling shabu during buy-bust highlights the core of the case, which has drawn significant attention from local law enforcement and community members alike.

Details of the Arrest and Suspect’s Background

Police Col. Milan Naz, chief of San Francisco police, identified the suspect as a 32-year-old officer known only by the alias Edwin. He was assigned to the Regional Communication and Electronic Unit of Police Regional Office-12 in General Santos City but had been working remotely from Surigao del Sur due to spinal tuberculosis diagnosed earlier this year.

Officials reported that Edwin tested positive for shabu use and was apprehended at his home in Purok 6, Barangay Amaga, Barobo, Surigao del Sur. Investigations revealed that he was not only a user but was actively selling illegal drugs, confirmed after a completed transaction with an undercover police buyer. Local sources noted that Edwin had been under surveillance for some time before his arrest.

Buy-Bust Operations and Charges Filed

Law enforcement carried out two separate buy-bust operations leading to Edwin’s capture. He is now classified as a high-value individual (HVI) in the ongoing drug crackdown efforts.

Aside from criminal charges, his mother unit is preparing to file an administrative case against him, addressing internal disciplinary violations and drug-related misconduct.

Supply Chain and Clientele Network

Investigators disclosed that Edwin sourced his shabu supply from Butuan City. He had also established a clientele base in San Francisco town, where he previously resided for some time. Community members expressed concern over the infiltration of illegal drugs into their neighborhoods, especially involving a law enforcement officer.

Current Detention and Legal Proceedings

The suspect remains detained at the San Francisco Municipal Police Station custodial facility. He faces charges under Sections 5 and 11 of Article II of Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, specifically for the sale and possession of dangerous drugs.

When confronted, the officer reportedly claimed his drug use was intended to alleviate the pain brought on by his illness. However, authorities emphasize that drug use and trafficking cannot be excused, especially among law enforcement personnel sworn to uphold the law.
