Shooting Incident on Taft Avenue in Pasay
On Saturday night, a tragic shooting unfolded along Taft Avenue corner Primo de Mayo Street in Pasay City, leaving a police officer dead and two civilians injured. The deadly attack shocked the community as it occurred in a busy area.
Police Staff Sergeant Jomar Caliguiran, 39, was riding his motorcycle in front of a local establishment when he was targeted by two unidentified gunmen. Officials reported that the suspects opened fire at around 8 p.m., striking Caliguiran.
Officer Returns Fire Amid Attack
Despite being shot, Caliguiran managed to fire back at his assailants. However, the attackers escaped swiftly on a silver NMAX motorcycle, leaving the scene before authorities arrived. Community members said the suspects remain unidentified and at large.
Immediate Medical Response and Casualties
Caliguiran was rushed to Pasay City General Hospital but was declared dead at 8:35 p.m. Meanwhile, stray bullets struck two residents aged 31 and 64 during the chaos. They were immediately taken to Manila Adventist Medical Center for treatment and are currently under medical supervision.
Investigation Underway
Local leaders noted that the Pasay City police have launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the suspects responsible for the shooting. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses to piece together the motive and details of the incident.
