Police Officers Investigated Over Sabungeros Abduction Claims
The National Police Commission (Napolcom) has launched an investigation into the alleged involvement of police officers in the abduction of cockfighting enthusiasts, locally known as sabungeros. This serious claim emerged from a suspect linked to the case, a security guard at a Manila cockfighting arena who goes by the name “Totoy.”
During a recent interview aired on local news, Totoy revealed disturbing details about the abduction and possible killings. He alleged that the victims were killed, tied to sandbags, and dumped in Taal Lake. These accusations have prompted Napolcom to act swiftly.
Napolcom Moves to Investigate Police Officers
In a statement released last Friday, Napolcom’s Vice Chairperson and Executive Officer Rafael Calinisan directed the agency’s Inspection, Monitoring and Investigation Service to start a motu proprio investigation regarding the police officers’ alleged role in these abductions. Calinisan emphasized the urgency of the matter, urging Totoy to come forward and submit a formal complaint to ensure the case is handled promptly.
“Napolcom will not hesitate to remove from the service any police personnel found to have colluded with the group allegedly responsible for killing the victims and dumping their bodies in Taal Lake,” the commission declared.
PNP and Justice Department Respond to Allegations
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has vowed to hold accountable anyone involved, affirming that they will “not spare” any personnel found guilty of participating in the abductions. This firm stance highlights the seriousness with which law enforcement agencies are treating the allegations.
Additionally, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla revealed his plans to meet with Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo.
