PNP Chief Commands Immediate Resolution of Election-Related Incidents
General Rommel Francisco Marbil, head of the Philippine National Police (PNP), has issued a direct order for all police units to quickly resolve all election-related incidents linked to the recent midterm elections. As of May 19, there have been 97 validated election-related incidents. Marbil emphasized the urgency of addressing these cases promptly, stating that “this is a direct order from the President: we must not allow violence and intimidation to tarnish the democratic process. The PNP will act with speed, precision, and transparency to resolve all pending cases.”
Current Investigations and Accountability Measures
Authorities are actively investigating the 97 validated election-related incidents, with several cases already uncovering initial leads. According to sources familiar with the matter, General Marbil has instructed all Regional and Provincial Directors to regularly submit progress reports. He stressed the importance of holding all offenders accountable under the law.
“We owe it to the public to pursue these cases with the urgency they deserve. The peaceful conduct of the 2025 elections must be complemented by a justice system that works swiftly and effectively,” Marbil added.
Types of Incidents and Police Deployment
Aside from violent encounters such as gun attacks, reports indicate that vote-buying and vote-selling were also recorded in some areas. To maintain order, over 163,000 PNP personnel were deployed nationwide. These forces were assigned to secure polling places, assist election officials, and ensure public safety throughout the election period.
Special quick response units and election security task forces were mobilized, particularly in regions identified as election hotspots. Community leaders said these measures were vital to protecting the integrity of the electoral process.
Public Cooperation and Reporting
The PNP encourages citizens to report any information that could aid in resolving election-related incidents. Members of the public can reach out to local police stations or use official hotlines to provide tips and support ongoing investigations.
Maintaining peace and order during elections remains a top priority, and authorities continue to work diligently to uphold the democratic process.
