Police Recover New People’s Army Arms Cache in Masbate
Authorities recovered a significant New People’s Army arms cache in Esperanza, Masbate, on Sunday evening. The discovery is a major development in ongoing efforts to dismantle armed groups in the region.
According to reports from local officials, the arms cache was seized during a large-scale internal security operation conducted in Sitio Tugas, Barangay Tawad. This area lies approximately 24 kilometers away from the Esperanza Municipal Police Station.
Details of the Seized Arms and Equipment
Community members said the recovered items included four long firearms, one short firearm, a grenade launcher, and an improvised explosive device (IED). In addition, assorted magazines and ammunition were found, along with handheld radios, communication gear, medical supplies, and personal belongings.
Local leaders noted that these weapons belonged to rebel forces operating in the municipalities of Esperanza, Placer, and Pio V. Corpuz. The confiscation is expected to weaken the armed capability of these lawless elements significantly.

Officials reported that this recovery marks a critical step toward restoring peace and stability in Masbate. Lt. Col. Freddie Herry, Force Commander of the Masbate 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, emphasized the importance of continued security operations and community partnerships.
“This recovery weakens the armed capability of lawless elements in the province. We will continue our security operations and strengthen our partnership with the community to ensure lasting peace and development in Masbate,” Herry stated.
