Police Regional Office Mourns Officer’s Tragic Death

BUTUAN CITY — The Police Regional Office in the Caraga Region (PRO-13) is grieving the loss of a dedicated police officer who died weeks after being electrocuted while serving a search warrant. The incident has deeply affected the entire police community and his family.

Patrolman Jankent Tuazon, a member of the 1301st Maneuver Company under the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 13, was executing a search warrant on July 25 in Barobo, Surigao del Sur. This warrant was related to violations under Republic Act 10591, which deals with the illegal possession of firearms.

Electrocution During Search Warrant Execution

Tuazon and his team arrived at the location to carry out their duty when the suspect deliberately activated an electric fence system, causing a severe electric shock to Tuazon. “Tuazon was rushed to a medical facility for treatment in the area and was transferred to a hospital in Butuan City,” said Maj. Jennifer Omiter, PRO-13’s information office chief.

Despite receiving urgent medical care, Tuazon battled his injuries for weeks but sadly passed away on August 10. “His untimely passing leaves a profound void not only within his bereaved family but also in the hearts of all who had the honor of serving alongside him,” PRO-13 Director Brig. Gen. Marcial Mariano Magistrado IV expressed during his visit to Tuazon’s wake in Loreto, Agusan del Sur.

Suspect Arrested and Legal Action Taken

Authorities confirmed that the suspect was apprehended following the incident. Additional charges have been filed in connection with the electrocution and violation of the law. Local officials stressed the importance of justice for Tuazon and his family.

Community and Police Stand United

In a statement, PRO-13 expressed solidarity with Tuazon’s family. “We stand in solidarity with his family in this time of sorrow and assure them of our full support. His gallantry continues to inspire us to serve and protect at all costs,” community leaders noted.

The tragic death of Patrolman Tuazon highlights the dangers law enforcement officers face daily, especially when executing search warrants involving high-risk suspects. His sacrifice serves as a reminder of the risks police officers willingly accept to uphold the law and protect communities.
