Major Shabu Bust in Lucena City
Authorities seized more than P2.7 million worth of shabu in Lucena City during separate buy-bust operations on Saturday, August 16. The police targeted two alleged high-value traffickers in this important Quezon province capital.
Local officials reported that the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) successfully apprehended suspects linked to large-scale drug distribution. The crackdown underscores ongoing efforts to dismantle drug syndicates operating in the region.
Arrest of ‘Dags’ Yields Significant Methamphetamine
Colonel Romulo Albacea, the Quezon police chief, revealed that PDEU agents arrested a 29-year-old suspect known as “Dags” at around 8:30 p.m. Saturday. The arrest took place after an undercover officer bought P1,000 worth of shabu from him in a subdivision located in Barangay Ilayang Iyam.
Investigators recovered one sealed plastic sachet and four sealed plastic bags containing approximately 87 grams of suspected shabu. Authorities estimated the street value of this haul at P591,600.
Based on the prevailing price of P20,400 per gram, the total market value of the confiscated methamphetamine is roughly P1,774,800. Officials emphasized that “Dags” is classified as a high-value individual (HVI) on the police drug watch list, a category reserved for key players such as financiers, traffickers, manufacturers, importers, or known syndicate members.
Early Morning Arrest of ‘Roy’ in Barangay Ibabang Iyam
Earlier the same day, at 4:20 a.m., the PDEU also arrested another suspect named “Roy,” 43, during a separate sting operation in Barangay Ibabang Iyam. This suspect is likewise listed as a high-value individual by law enforcement.
Authorities confiscated two sealed plastic bags containing 50 grams of suspected shabu from Roy, with an estimated street value of P1.02 million. These coordinated operations highlight intensified police efforts to disrupt drug networks in Quezon province.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Police continue to investigate the source of the shabu distributed by the arrested suspects. Both individuals are expected to face charges under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, reflecting the government’s commitment to combating illegal drug activities.
Community members and officials alike have expressed support for the crackdown, hoping it will lead to a safer and drug-free environment in Lucena City and surrounding areas.
