Major Drug Bust in Zamboanga City
Authorities conducted a significant drug operation in Zamboanga City, seizing suspected shabu worth P13.6 million. The police arrested two individuals during a buy-bust operation held late Friday night in Barangay Baliwasan, officials reported.
The Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP DEG) identified the suspects as “Choy,” 23, and “Ungod,” 45. Both are considered high-value targets in ongoing anti-drug efforts, sources said.
Details of the Buy-Bust Operation
During the sting, law enforcement officers recovered approximately two kilograms of suspected crystal methamphetamine. The suspects were immediately taken into custody by the Zamboanga City Police Station 11, where they now face charges under Republic Act 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, community members noted.
Following the arrest, the seized drugs were turned over to the Police Regional Office Zamboanga Forensic Unit for laboratory analysis to confirm the substances’ nature and purity, local leaders added.
Ongoing Efforts Against Illegal Drugs
This operation marks another milestone in the city’s intensified campaign against illegal narcotics. Law enforcement agencies continue to prioritize targeting high-value individuals involved in the drug trade to dismantle networks and reduce drug-related crimes.
Officials emphasized that such operations are vital to ensuring public safety and curbing the proliferation of dangerous substances across the region.
Community Impact and Future Actions
Residents of Barangay Baliwasan expressed relief over the successful operation, hoping it will contribute to a safer environment. “Salamat sa mga pulis, sana tuloy-tuloy ang ganito para mawala na ang droga sa aming lugar,” one community member said.
Authorities vowed to maintain vigilance and work closely with local communities to sustain gains in the fight against illegal drugs.
