Authorities Crack Down on Illegal Vape Sales in Marilao
Authorities recently seized approximately P9 million worth of vape products during a raid in Marilao, Bulacan. The operation led to the arrest of a Chinese businessman found selling vape products without proper permits. This crackdown highlights ongoing efforts to regulate the vape industry and protect public health.
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) reported that the suspect was caught in Barangay Prenza 1, Marilao town, selling unregistered vape items without authorization from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Officials confiscated 26,000 pieces of assorted “Eutral” brand vape products, with an estimated value of P9.1 million.
Enforcement of Vape Regulation Laws
The government strictly controls the import, manufacture, sale, and distribution of vaporized nicotine and non-nicotine products, along with their devices, to promote a healthier environment. This seizure aligns with these regulatory efforts, especially amid rising health concerns.
Recently, the Department of Health requested the Philippine National Police’s assistance to intensify enforcement against the sale and distribution of vape products. This move comes as alarming cases of lung problems among minors linked to vaping continue to increase.
“With this confiscation in huge quantities, we significantly protect the citizens from any potential health hazards that may occur from these unregistered vape products; and we have arrested the alleged seller of these illicit items,” said a law enforcement official.
Legal Charges Filed Against Suspect
The suspect now faces charges for violating Section 19 of Republic Act No. 11900, which governs vaporized nicotine and non-nicotine products. Specifically, he failed to register the vape products with the Department of Trade and Industry and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR).
This case serves as a reminder of the government’s commitment to enforcing vape product regulations and ensuring public safety. It also underscores the importance of compliance among sellers to avoid legal consequences.
