Police Summons Issued for Officers Linked to Sabungeros Abduction
The National Police Commission (Napolcom) has dispatched summons to 12 active police officers allegedly involved in the abduction of sabungeros. This move marks a critical step in addressing the serious accusations against law enforcement personnel.
Napolcom Vice Chairperson Rafael Calinisan confirmed the development during a radio interview on DZBB. He said the summoned officers are required to respond to the complaint filed by whistleblower Julie “Dondon” Patidongan, also known as Totoy.
“As we speak, we are sending out summons to the 12 active policemen. They are being made to answer the complaint filed by Alias Totoy so that they can give their side,” Calinisan said in Filipino.
Jurisdiction Limits Over Dismissed Officers
Calinisan explained that six other police officers mentioned in the complaint have already been dismissed from the service. Because of their dismissal, Napolcom no longer holds jurisdiction over them. However, the former officers may still face criminal charges through proceedings led by the Department of Justice.
“The six other police officers, apparently, are dismissed from the police service. By virtue of them being dismissed, we have no jurisdiction over them,” he added. “But they may still be held criminally liable through the DOJ’s case.”
Whistleblower’s Allegations and Denials
The complaint stems from Patidongan’s claims that several police officers were paid by gaming magnate Charlie “Atong” Ang to abduct and eliminate sabungeros accused of cheating in cockfighting matches. Patidongan first shared these allegations during a June interview on GMA News.
Ang has firmly denied all accusations, describing them as “entirely false and without basis.” He expressed concern over the damage caused by widespread publicity.
Furthermore, Ang accused Patidongan of attempting to extort P300 million from him, threatening false implication if the demand was not met.
Efforts to Seek Justice Continue
Authorities are now pushing forward with investigations, ensuring that all implicated officers face proper scrutiny. The summons to the active police personnel is expected to shed light on the truth behind the disturbing events involving the sabungeros.
Meanwhile, the dismissed officers’ potential criminal liability remains under the Department of Justice’s review, signaling that accountability may extend beyond administrative sanctions.
