Power Restored in Six Towns of Lanao del Norte
Iligan City – The Lanao del Norte Electric Cooperative Inc. (Laneco) restored power to six towns in Lanao del Norte province by 5 p.m. on Friday, more than a day after the electricity supply was cut off. The power outage affected the towns of Balo-i, Matungao, Linamon, Munai, Bacolod, Maigo, and Poona Piagapo.
Laneco general manager Sherwin Mañada told sources that strong winds toppled trees, damaging distribution lines and causing the blackout about 17 hours before scheduled preventive maintenance in those areas. Although most towns had their power restored by Friday evening, Poona Piagapo remained without electricity as crews continued clearing operations on the damaged lines.
Additional Towns Affected and Quick Response
Other towns such as Kauswagan, Magsaysay, Tubod, Kolambugan, Sultan Naga Dimaporo, Tangcal, Nunungan, Kapatagan, Lala, Salvador, Sapad, and Baroy also experienced power interruptions on Friday. However, power was quickly restored in these areas, minimizing disruption.
Tragic Incident Amid Severe Weather
Meanwhile, officials from the provincial disaster risk reduction and management office confirmed a heartbreaking incident in Tubod town. A child died Friday evening when a fallen tree struck their house in Barangay Sto. Niño. The family was asleep when the tragedy occurred.
Additionally, initial reports indicated some houses suffered damage from strong waves in Bacolod, Kolambugan, and Kauswagan towns. Authorities continue assessing the situation to provide necessary aid and ensure community safety.
The swift restoration of power and ongoing relief efforts highlight the community’s resilience in facing natural challenges. Local leaders noted the importance of preventive maintenance and disaster preparedness to reduce future risks.
