Power Supply Disruption at DOE Press Conference
During a recent press conference involving the Department of Energy, a brief power outage occurred, disrupting the event for several minutes. The incident happened inside the Philippine National Oil Company-Exploration Corp. building located within the DOE compound in Taguig City.
The power interruption was quickly addressed thanks to a backup generator, restoring electricity to the venue. Energy Secretary Raphael Lotilla explained that the issue was a localized blackout within the building itself, likely caused by the electrical connections being unable to support the simultaneous use of all equipment.
Understanding the Cause of the Outage
“This building could not handle the power demand surge from all of your equipment… We really have to take it into account next time,” the Secretary said, emphasizing the limitations of the building’s electrical system during high-demand situations.
To resolve the problem, personnel from the local electric company were called in to repair a damaged fuse box. This swift action helped prevent a longer disruption and ensured the press conference could continue without further incident.
Reassurances on National Energy Stability
Despite the temporary setback, the Energy Secretary reassured the public that the overall power supply across the country remains stable and reliable. He highlighted that during critical periods, including recent election times, the national power grid successfully maintained continuous service.
“I think, from what you have seen during the election period and during critical times the power was on, I think that’s more important… It’s more important to look at a more general picture rather than this isolated incident,” Lotilla stated.
This incident underscores the importance of evaluating localized electrical systems, especially in government facilities, to avoid similar disruptions in the future.
