President Corazon C. Aquino General Hospital Opens Early
The President Corazon C. Aquino General Hospital, also known as the Baseco Hospital, is set to open this Friday, officials reported. This new development marks a significant milestone for the local healthcare system as the hospital’s opening is now three months ahead of the originally planned December 2025 date.
Manila City government sources highlighted that despite previous delays under the former administration, the Baseco Hospital’s inauguration aligns with Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso’s campaign promise to expedite its completion. The hospital aims to serve the Baseco community and neighboring areas with enhanced medical services.
State-of-the-Art Facility with Comprehensive Services
Constructed at a cost of P100 million, the three-storey President Corazon C. Aquino General Hospital spans approximately 2,012.60 square meters and features 50 hospital beds. Community members noted that the facility is equipped with modern medical equipment and infrastructure designed to meet the health needs of local residents effectively.
The hospital will complement Manila’s existing flagship health projects by providing accessible care in the Baseco area. Local leaders emphasized the hospital’s role in strengthening public health services within the city.
Advanced Medical Facilities and Departments
The hospital boasts a wide range of departments and specialized facilities, ensuring comprehensive care around the clock. Highlights include:
- A 24/7 fully operational Emergency Room with a convenient Hospital Ambulance Drop-Off curb
- An inclusive Community Outpatient Department
- Digital X-ray machines within the Radiology Department
- Fully equipped Laboratory and Central Diagnostics Department
- A Centralized Medical Gas System supplying oxygen
- Pharmacy services for patient medication needs
- A Dietary Department to support patient nutrition
- A 24/7 Maternity Department ready for childbirth and maternal care
- Surgery and Internal Medicine Departments for critical and ongoing treatments
- Separate Male and Female Wards
- A Pediatrics Ward dedicated to child health
- Isolation Wards designed for infection control
Background and Future Plans
Earlier this year, Mayor Domagoso revealed that although the Baseco Hospital’s construction was completed three years ago, the facility remained unopened after his first term ended. This hospital is now the seventh government-owned medical center established in Manila, marking a continued investment in public health infrastructure.
In addition to the hospital’s opening, city officials announced plans to remove the online scheduling system currently used in health centers. This system, introduced under Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa’s eight-point agenda and aligned with the Universal Health Care Act, still allowed walk-in patients but required prior appointments for many services.
Community members welcomed the removal of the online appointment requirement, anticipating easier access to health services.
