President Marcos Accepts Courtesy Resignations Cabinet
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has accepted the courtesy resignations of key officials in his Cabinet, a Palace spokesperson confirmed on Thursday. This move reflects the president’s ongoing evaluation of his team’s performance amid his administration’s reorganization efforts.
Palace Press Officer Claire Castro announced that the Presidential Legislative Liaison Office president Mark Llandro Mendoza, Presidential Adviser on Military and Police Affairs Secretary Roman A. Felix, and Philippine National Oil Company Renewables Corporation CEO John Arenas are no longer part of the Cabinet after their courtesy resignations were accepted.
Officials Removed and Retained
Meanwhile, several officials were retained after President Marcos declined their courtesy resignations. These include Government Service Insurance System President and General Manager Jose Arnulfo “Wick” Veloso; Land Bank of the Philippines President and CEO Lynette V. Ortiz; Development Bank of the Philippines President and CEO Michael O. de Jesus; National Irrigation Administration Administrator Eduardo Eddie Guillen; Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office General Manager Mel Robles; and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation President and CEO Edwin Mercado.
“The acceptance of courtesy resignations and the decision to retain some officials is proof that the performance of agency heads and other leaders continues to be evaluated,” Castro explained, speaking mainly in Filipino.
She added, “They should expect that more names may still be added to the list of those who could be retained or removed.”
Context Behind the Courtesy Resignations
Earlier, President Marcos called for all Cabinet members to submit their courtesy resignations. This step is part of his broader effort to reorganize and strengthen his Cabinet, ensuring that agency heads meet the administration’s performance standards.
The acceptance and rejection of these resignations show a careful review process, signaling that the president is committed to maintaining effective leadership within his government.
