President Marcos Assures Flood Victims Early Assistance
MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has assured Filipinos affected by the recent heavy rains and flooding that early assistance is already underway. In a video message released by the Presidential Communications Office, the president urged everyone to heed the advice of their local government officials to stay safe during this challenging time.
Speaking from the United States, where he is on an official visit, Marcos emphasized that preparations for the flooding were made even before his departure. “To my fellow Filipinos, before we left Manila to go to the United States for an official visit with the President of the United States, President Trump, I had already given instructions to all our agencies to prepare for the flooding caused by the heavy rains,” he said.
Coordinated Government Response to Flooding
The president revealed that he has ordered key government agencies including the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), Department of Transportation (DOTr), Department of Health (DOH), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Energy (DOE), and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to work closely together.
He stressed, “I have already instructed the OCD, DOTr, DOH, DOST, DSWD, DPWH, DOE, DILG, and all other agencies to work and coordinate with each other to ensure the safety of our fellow countrymen.” Relief goods are currently being delivered, and medical teams stand ready to assist those in need.
Ensuring Basic Needs and Safety
Marcos also assured that transportation services remain available and that water and electricity supplies are being maintained to meet the needs of affected communities. “We are also making sure that transportation is available and, of course, that there is an adequate supply of water and electricity—all of this is to meet the needs of those affected by the flooding and heavy rains,” he explained.
He appealed to citizens, saying, “My only request is that you please listen to the advisories issued by your LGU and the national government and kindly follow them so we can ensure that you are not put in danger.” The president underscored the importance of strengthening government capacity to respond to climate-related challenges.
Weather Warnings and Tropical Developments
The state weather bureau has issued rainfall warnings for Metro Manila and various parts of Luzon. Areas under red warning are expected to receive over 30 millimeters of rain within three hours, while those under orange warning can expect 15 to 30 millimeters of rainfall in the same period. Yellow warnings indicate lighter rain.
Weather officials also monitor two low-pressure areas within the Philippine area of responsibility. Both systems have a medium chance of developing into tropical depressions within 24 hours, local sources said.
As the country faces these weather threats, the government remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all Filipinos.
