President Marcos Condemns Shooting of Quarry Contractor in Negros Oriental
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has strongly condemned the shooting of a quarry contractor in Negros Oriental. Palace officials emphasized the importance of thoroughly investigating the incident to uncover its root cause and prevent further violence.
“It is only right to investigate that so we can find out its root cause, and we condemn these acts of violence—that is according to the President,” a Palace Press Officer stated during a briefing.
Details of the Incident
The victim, identified as Engr. Angelito Uy Mendoza, 58, resides in Barangay Manalongon, Sta. Catalina. He was attacked around 7:40 a.m. last Wednesday while traveling along the national highway in Sta. Catalina.
Mendoza was riding his motorcycle when an unidentified gunman on another motorcycle approached and fired three shots using a .45-caliber pistol. The bullets struck Mendoza in the back, causing him to fall beside the road along with his motorcycle. The assailant quickly fled northward.
Medical Response and Current Condition
After the shooting, Mendoza was immediately brought to a hospital in Bayawan City. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to Silliman University Medical Center in Dumaguete City, where he is currently reported to be in stable condition according to hospital sources.
Ongoing Investigation
Authorities are actively pursuing the attacker. Police units are reviewing CCTV footage around the crime scene and working closely with intelligence agencies to gather information on the suspect’s identity and possible motives. The investigation remains ongoing as officials strive to bring the perpetrator to justice.
