President Marcos emphasized the importance of greater synergy, innovation, and political will within the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) as the subregional group moves forward with its development plans. During the 16th BIMP-EAGA Summit held on May 27 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, he expressed confidence that enhanced cooperation will turn shared goals into lasting benefits for the member countries’ populations.
The BIMP-EAGA synergy and innovation are key to shaping the future of this subregional alliance. Currently, the group is working on the BIMP-EAGA Vision 2035, a comprehensive strategy designed to guide its priorities over the next decade. “Since 2017, our cooperation has deepened, and our partnership has delivered tangible benefits for our peoples,” Marcos stated, highlighting key advancements in connectivity, trade and investment facilitation, food and energy security, ecotourism, and green development.
He urged member countries to celebrate these achievements while renewing their commitment to a more integrated, prosperous, and resilient BIMP-EAGA. The cooperation emphasizes trade, investment, tourism, and strategic sectors such as infrastructure development, power interconnection, and socio-cultural and educational exchanges.
