President Marcos Jr. Inaugurates Iloilo Fish Port Complex
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently led the inauguration of the rehabilitated Philippine Fisheries Development Authority–Iloilo Fish Port Complex (PFDA-IFPC) in Barangay Tanza-Baybay, Iloilo City. This milestone project, funded through the Multi-Year National Government Subsidy of PFDA, boasts a contract price exceeding P885 million, according to local officials.
The newly upgraded Iloilo Fish Port Complex features modern facilities designed to improve efficiency and service capacity for clients and stakeholders. Completed in March 2025, the port now stands as a prime example of government investment in sustainable infrastructure.
Modern Facilities and Solar Power Integration
Among the significant upgrades is a 390-kilowatt-peak solar photovoltaic system installed at the complex. The system includes 1,152 370-watt solar panels strategically placed on key structures such as the new market hall, refrigeration building, cold storage facility, commercial building, public toilet, and administration building. Local leaders noted that this green energy initiative will enhance the port’s operations and reduce its carbon footprint.
Support for Local Farmers Through Agricultural Equipment Distribution
In addition to the port inauguration, President Marcos Jr. oversaw the distribution of P37 million worth of farm machinery and equipment to local farmers. The donated items include four-wheel tractors, corn mills, corn shellers, hammer mills, and rice combine harvesters. Community members expressed gratitude for these agricultural interventions, which aim to boost productivity and support livelihoods in the region.
Inspection of Flood Control Project in Jaro
Earlier on the same day, the president visited an ongoing flood mitigation project in Barangay San Isidro, Jaro. Accompanied by Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan and senior city officials, he inspected the efforts to address flooding challenges in Iloilo City. Officials reported that this project is crucial to protecting communities from seasonal floods and improving urban resilience.
These developments highlight the government’s commitment to enhancing critical infrastructure and agricultural support in Iloilo. Local leaders emphasized the importance of such projects for sustainable economic growth and disaster preparedness.
