MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reaffirmed his commitment to strengthen the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) during the 67th Philippine Army (PA) Change of Command and Retirement Ceremony held in Taguig City. In the ceremony, Lieutenant General Antonio Nafarrete officially took over as the new Commanding General of the Philippine Army, succeeding Lieutenant General Roy Galido. Galido concluded a distinguished military career spanning over three decades, having also served as the Army Inspector General and Commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
President Marcos praised Galido’s leadership, saying, “Under his watch, the Philippine Army has made great strides on and off the battlefield. You have pursued peace through civil-military operations that led to the surrender of armed fighters.” His efforts were crucial in advancing both military effectiveness and peace initiatives.

Welcoming Lt. Gen. This will demand your vigilance and leadership to deliver clear direction and to show a firm commitment,” the President stated.
He expressed full confidence in Nafarrete’s ability to guide the Philippine Army with strength and integrity. “I have full confidence that under your command, the Philippine Army will remain steadfast as a pillar of strength, integrity, and professionalism,” Marcos said.

The Philippine Army expressed strong support for their new leader. They described Lt. Gen. Nafarrete as “a seasoned leader with decades of service, bringing integrity, experience, and a strong commitment to the Army’s mission of peace and national development.”
