President Marcos Commits to Better Learning Spaces
President Marcos reaffirmed his commitment to enhance learning environments and support both teachers and students as he spearheaded the national launch of Brigada Eskwela 2025 on Monday, June 9. The four-word keyphrase “Brigada Eskwela 2025 launch” was central to his message as he visited San Miguel, Bulacan, to inspect preparations in public schools.
He assured educators that the government is fully prepared for the upcoming school year starting June 16. “Asahan ninyo, gagawin namin lahat para maging handa na ang lahat ng paaralan sa pasukan,” he said during his visit to Tibagan Elementary School. He added, “Patuloy lang namin tinitingnan at kailangan maghanda na tayo para sa pasukan. Ready na ba kayo? Palagay ko yung mga bata, reding-ready na rin.” This emphasis on readiness highlighted the administration’s priority to ensure all schools are fully prepared.
Brigada Eskwela 2025 Launch: A Nationwide Effort
The Brigada Eskwela 2025 launch, themed “Sama-Sama Para sa Bayang Bumabasa” (Together for a Nation of Readers), runs from June 9 to 13. It mobilizes teachers, parents, and volunteers nationwide to clean, repair, and improve classrooms. During his visits to Birahan Elementary School in Malolos and Tibagan Elementary School in San Miguel, the President checked on repairs to ceilings, doors, and windows. He also reviewed damage from previous typhoons and observed beautification efforts like gardening, painting, and carpentry.
Reducing Teachers’ Administrative Burden
Before 200 newly hired teachers in San Miguel, President Marcos expressed his strong support for educators. He emphasized ongoing reforms to lessen their clerical workload. “Kasi naging teacher kayo para magturo, hindi para mag-bookkeeping,” he said, underscoring the importance of allowing teachers to focus on teaching.
He praised teachers as true heroes: “Kayong mga teacher ang inaasahan. Para sa akin, kayo yung mga talagang hero.” Recognizing their dedication, Marcos noted that many enter teaching out of passion rather than for fame or wealth. “Ang teacher, naging teacher kasi hindi makatulog yan kung hindi nagtuturo. Hindi mapakali ang teacher pag hindi nagtuturo.” He promised support not only financially but also through retraining programs to help them excel in their roles.
Boosting Digital Transformation in Education
President Marcos also witnessed a live online orientation by Khan Academy involving 20 students, showcasing efforts to integrate high-quality, free digital learning platforms into public schools. To further improve internet access, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) unveiled the new Starlink internet service at the school.
DICT Secretary Henry Aguda explained, “Pwede na ‘yan, basta ikabit mo lang, isaksak mo lang, okay na, may Wi-Fi.” The administration plans to deploy Starlink in remote and disadvantaged schools to enhance online learning opportunities.
Additionally, Marcos oversaw the handover of 22 tablets and a laptop at Barihan Elementary School. To support students further, more than 300 school supply kits will be distributed on the first day of classes, June 16.
Promoting Disaster-Resilient Schools
Earlier, the President visited Barihan Elementary School in Malolos to monitor rehabilitation efforts. He stressed the importance of building classrooms that withstand disasters, reviewing archival photos of typhoon damage. This resilience focus is a key part of the school improvement agenda.
Brigada Eskwela is an annual five-day campaign preceding the academic year. It ensures schools are clean, safe, and ready for learners. This year’s launch also highlights the administration’s education priorities: infrastructure upgrades, digital integration, and stronger teacher support.
During the visits, Marcos was accompanied by Education Secretary Sonny Angara and DICT Secretary Henry Aguda. The President emphasized that rehabilitating schools and improving teaching conditions are vital to boosting student performance and national learning outcomes.
