President Marcos Meets Labor Leaders on Workers’ Rights

President Marcos recently met with labor leaders to discuss urgent reforms in the labor sector, focusing on workers’ rights, living wages, and decent work. This dialogue aimed to strengthen protections for Filipino workers and improve their quality of life.

On the evening of June 3, Marcos shared that he had a meaningful conversation with labor representatives to ensure the continued protection of workers’ rights and welfare. “Nakausap ko ang ating mga labor leaders para tiyakin na mananatiling protektado ang karapatan at kapakanan ng ating mga manggagawa,” he said on social media.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting open and constructive talks that lead to dignified jobs, fair wages, and a hopeful future for Filipino families. “Patuloy ang suporta ng gobyerno sa bukas at makabuluhang usapan tungo sa trabahong may dignidad, sahod na sapat, at kinabukasang may pag-asa para sa bawat pamilyang Pilipino,” Marcos added.

Key Meeting at Malacañang

The discussion took place at the Goldenberg Mansion inside the Malacañang Compound in Manila during the morning of June 3. Labor leaders raised pressing concerns affecting Filipino workers, including the urgent need to protect their rights, secure living wages, and create decent employment opportunities.

According to local labor representatives, the dialogue allowed the government to hear firsthand the challenges faced by workers and their families. They stressed that safeguarding workers’ rights is vital not only for social justice but also for economic growth.

Labor Leaders Stress Union Rights

In a statement, the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines highlighted the importance of the meeting. They expressed gratitude to the President for listening and engaging with labor voices. TUCP Party-list Representative and House Deputy Speaker Raymond Democrito Mendoza noted the critical need to strengthen workers’ rights to freely form and join unions.

Mendoza explained that these rights are fundamental constitutional guarantees and align with international labor standards. Moreover, empowering unions is essential to rebuilding the national economy and unlocking vast opportunities through free trade agreements and tariff-free access.

Moving Forward: Jobs with Dignity and Hope

This dialogue signals the government’s openness to meaningful reforms that will enhance the lives of Filipino workers. By fostering a labor environment rooted in dignity, fair compensation, and hope for the future, the administration aims to uplift countless families nationwide.
