President Marcos Open for Reconciliation with Dutertes

President Marcos Open for Reconciliation with Dutertes Clarified

Malacañang recently clarified President Marcos’ stance amid comments from Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte regarding reconciliation. Contrary to suggestions, the President did not extend an offer of reconciliation to the Dutertes. Instead, he expressed openness to reconciling with political opponents, including the Dutertes, to promote national peace and stability.

Palace Press Officer and Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro emphasized the distinction between being “open for reconciliation” and actually “offering” it. She added, “If I’m not mistaken, that’s the word: open. Not ‘offer.’ So, malaki po ang pagkakaiba ng open for reconciliation at nag-o-offer ng reconciliation.”

Presidential Response Reflects Leadership

Castro further highlighted that the President’s response was fitting for a leader. Dapat lang, opo, open siya for reconciliation,” she said. This openness reflects the President’s willingness to bridge divides for the country’s greater good.

Palace Dismisses Criticism and Cabinet Revamp Claims

The Palace also dismissed Mayor Baste Duterte’s accusations labeling the President as lying, weak, and arrogant. “Can we really expect a kind word from him for the President? His reaction is expected,” Castro remarked.

Regarding the ongoing Cabinet reshuffle, particularly the removal of Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra, Castro clarified that the changes were based on performance. The President aims to keep trusted officials while letting go of those who have underperformed.

Overall, the Palace urges critics to consider the facts and intentions behind the President’s words and actions. The emphasis remains on unity and effective governance despite political differences.
