President Marcos Open to Reconciling with Duterte Family

President Marcos Emphasizes Unity Over Conflict

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently expressed his willingness to reconcile with the Duterte family despite ongoing political tensions. Speaking in his first podcast episode released on Monday, May 19, the President highlighted the importance of maintaining stability and friendship over division. He stressed that working together with political rivals, including the Dutertes, is far better than allowing conflicts to distract from the nation’s governance.

“Oo. Ayoko ng gulo. Gusto ko makasundo sa lahat ng tao. Mas maganda,” he said, emphasizing his desire to avoid conflict and foster harmony. He further added, “Marami na akong kaaway. Hindi ko kailangan ng kaaway, kailangan ko kaibigan.”

Focus on National Stability and Peace

Marcos underlined that national stability and peace are priorities, especially as his administration pushes forward long-overdue projects and reforms. “Hangga’t maaari, ang habol ko yung stability, peaceful, para magawa namin ang trabaho namin,” he shared. His approach is to keep the government focused on its tasks rather than getting caught up in political disputes.

He also emphasized his openness to dialogue and cooperation despite differences in policy. “Lagi akong bukas sa ganyan. I’m always open to any approach,” Marcos affirmed. He invited collaboration by saying, “Halika, magtulungan tayo. Kahit na hindi tayo magkasundo sa polisiya… tanggalin natin ang gulo.”

Political Tensions and the Impeachment Complaint

Tensions between the Marcos and Duterte camps have escalated following the filing of an impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte earlier this year. The complaint, now pending in the Senate, alleges misuse of confidential funds during her time as Education Secretary and references public threats she made against the President and his family.

Despite these developments, Marcos has remained firm in his decision not to interfere with the impeachment proceedings, allowing the process to unfold independently. He reminded everyone that the election season has ended and urged a return to work, stating, “Tapos na ang elections, balik sa trabaho. Gawin na natin lahat with the new lessons learned.”

Looking Ahead: Cooperation for the Nation’s Benefit

The President’s message clearly favors cooperation over confrontation, reflecting his commitment to national progress. His openness to reconciling with the Duterte family signals a willingness to put political differences aside for the greater good of the country.
