President Marcos Oversees Speech Crafting for Fourth SONA

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is deeply involved in crafting his speech and preparing for his upcoming fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA), sources said. The President personally supervises the process, viewing the SONA as a crucial platform to share the administration’s accomplishments and future plans directly with Filipino citizens.

At Villamor Air Base in Pasay City, an official noted, “The President has been very involved personally in the preparation of the SONA because that is the report to the people.” He emphasized that the President treats the address with utmost importance and has already gathered the necessary materials for it.

Caretakers Appointed During President’s US Visit

While the President is on an official visit to the United States from June 20 to 22, three Cabinet members—Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, and Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III—will serve as caretakers of the government. Bersamin shared that President Marcos is eager to report the administration’s programs and projects through his SONA.

Set for delivery on July 28 at the Batang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City, the fourth SONA will coincide with the opening of the first regular session of the 20th Congress. Bersamin remarked, “The President is very focused on this (SONA preparation) because he really loves to communicate to the people the work that he has been doing, that the Cabinet has been doing, that the entire government has been doing.”

US Visit and Potential SONA Highlights

When asked if the President’s recent US trip will be part of the SONA report, Bersamin said, “If there is anything worth reporting, we can expect it.” The visit aims to strengthen Manila-Washington ties, focusing on defense cooperation and trade.

One key objective is pursuing a bilateral trade agreement and negotiating the reduction of the 20-percent reciprocal tariff affecting Philippine exports starting August 1. This trip underscores the administration’s commitment to expanding economic and security partnerships abroad.
