President Marcos Commits to Full Support for Athletes
MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. vowed full support for the country’s athletes during his fourth State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday. He emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent through grassroots programs.
“For example, the Palarong Pambansa and the Batang Pinoy Games, which will be held in General Santos City this October. We will establish a new national program for sports development, starting right at the school level,” he said in Filipino. This move signals a renewed focus on sports development beginning with the youth.
Reviving Sports Programs in Schools
President Marcos also announced plans to revive sports clubs and organize games and intramurals in all public schools nationwide. These activities aim to engage students early, helping them improve their skills and build confidence.
“Because of these, our youth are exposed to sports early, get better and gain more confidence,” he added. Local leaders noted this initiative could greatly enhance the country’s athletic competitiveness on the global stage.
These efforts align with the administration’s broader vision to promote health, discipline, and unity through sports. By investing in youth programs and school-based activities, the government hopes to cultivate future champions and strengthen community ties.
