MANILA, Philippines — In his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday afternoon, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed deep gratitude to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). He acknowledged their vital role in showcasing Filipino talent and goodwill worldwide.
“Nagpapasalamat tayo sa ating magigiting na mga OFW. Dahil sa kanila, naipamamalas ang angking galing, kabutihan, at puso ng Pilipino—sa lahat ng sulok ng daigdig,” the President said. (We are grateful to our brave overseas Filipino workers. Because of them, the skill, kindness, and heart of the Filipino are showcased in every corner of the world.)
OFW Remittances Show Steady Growth
Financial sources reported that personal remittances from overseas Filipino workers increased by 2.6 percent, reaching US$3.02 billion or over ₱171 billion in February 2025. This marks a rise from the US$2.95 billion or ₱167 billion recorded in February 2024, according to bankers and economic analysts.
These remittances continue to play a crucial role in the Philippine economy, helping families and fueling local consumption. Local leaders emphasized the unwavering dedication of OFWs, noting their sacrifices and contributions that uplift communities back home.
OFWs: The Nation’s Pride
Experts highlighted that the success of Filipino workers abroad reflects not only their skills but also the Filipino spirit of resilience and compassion. President Marcos’s acknowledgment during the SONA underscores the government’s recognition of OFWs as essential partners in nation-building.
The continued growth in remittances also signals positive economic trends despite global uncertainties. As overseas Filipinos strive for better futures, their efforts help strengthen the country’s financial stability.
