President Marcos Reappoints Key Officials Amid Cabinet Shifts
President Marcos has reappointed Henry Aguda as the head of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and Jay Ruiz as acting secretary of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO). These reappointments come after both officials were bypassed by the Commission on Appointments (CA), sources said.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin confirmed on June 17 that Jay Ruiz retained his post. Meanwhile, a PCO official disclosed that Henry Aguda also received a renewed appointment. The reappointments highlight the President’s trust in their leadership despite previous delays.
Voluntary Resignation and Cabinet Updates
In related developments, PCO Senior Undersecretary Ana Puod voluntarily stepped down from her position. A Palace official explained, “Voluntaryo po kay Miss Ana Puod ang kanyang pagre-resign at kung anuman ang kanyang dahilan personal na po sa kanya iyon.” This resignation came amid broader Cabinet changes.
Additionally, around 27 officers have reached the end of their terms, and the President accepted courtesy resignations from several others, though their specific agencies were not disclosed. Under the PCO alone, 17 officials have had their resignations accepted, marking a significant reshuffle.
Courtesy Resignations and Performance Evaluations
Despite the wave of resignations, there has been no formal directive for all undersecretaries to submit courtesy resignations. “Sa mga undersecretaries po kasi wala naman pong direktiba na kami ay maghain ng courtesy resignation,” a Palace official shared. The decision to accept resignations depends on whether officials comply with the President’s directives.
The current changes are part of a massive Cabinet performance evaluation launched by President Marcos last month. Officials who fail to meet expectations may face removal, but no sweeping orders have been issued so far.
