President Marcos Pushes for Every Filipino Family Graduate
MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is focused on a singular, ambitious goal before his term ends: to ensure every Filipino family has at least one college graduate. This vision highlights the critical importance of education as the foundation for national progress.
During the final segment of the third episode of the PBBM Podcast, titled “Sa Likod ng Sona,” which aired last Friday, Marcos was asked about the key project he hopes to accomplish before 2028. Without hesitation, he emphasized education as his top priority.
“Education. What I said in the Sona that every Filipino family should have a college graduate or someone who has graduated from TESDA [Technical Education and Skills Development Authority],” he stated clearly. “That, for me, is the goal. If we can achieve this, then that’s a success.”
Why Every Filipino Family Graduate Matters
Marcos believes this target remains achievable despite being in the latter half of his presidency. He explained that without quality training and education, Filipinos will struggle to compete in the global labor market.
“If the training is not good, if the education of Filipinos is not good, they won’t be able to compete in the labor market, right? They won’t have—they also won’t have—all that we’ve done will be of no advantage to them,” the president said. “That’s why, in the end, it all really comes down to education.”
He also affirmed that the nation’s greatest asset lies in its people. “Our greatest resource is our people. Our greatest resource is the human capital of the Philippines,” Marcos added.
Concrete Steps to Improve Education
In his State of the Nation Address (Sona) last July 28, Marcos promised to build 40,000 new classrooms before his term concludes. He described the current classroom shortage as “pitiful,” which directly impacts the quality of education that students receive.
To support educators, Marcos assured teachers that their success will be measured beyond just passing rates. “You can be assured that your competence will not be measured merely by the number of students you pass, but by the number of learners you help improve and inspire to aim higher in life,” he said.
With these initiatives, the president hopes to create an environment where education becomes a stepping stone for every Filipino family graduate, empowering them to compete and thrive both locally and internationally.
