Marcos Calls for Integrity Among League of Provinces
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday emphasized the critical need for integrity among the newly elected officials of the League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP). Speaking at the ceremony held in Malacañang, he urged the leaders to actively expose irregularities in government projects and ensure transparency.
“The fight is just beginning, and we still have a long way to go. I hope you will be with us every step of the way—examining projects with us and helping shed light on those who hide in the shadows,” the President said, highlighting how the country urgently needs leaders committed to ending corruption.
Ensuring Proper Implementation and Public Trust
Marcos encouraged the provincial leaders to serve the public with utmost integrity. He stressed the importance of overseeing projects implemented by both the national government and the provinces, ensuring they are carried out properly. “Let us expose anything we may find to be contrary,” he added, urging vigilance against mismanagement.
Community members noted that the President also called on the officials to be the genuine voice of their constituents. “Fellow public servants, we are here because the people have placed their trust in us. Let us not let them down,” he said, reminding them of their vital role in governance.
Modernizing Services with Technology
In addition, Marcos encouraged the League of Provinces of the Philippines to adopt zero-balance billing in their hospitals. He also urged the use of artificial intelligence, data analytics, and other modern technologies to enhance service delivery and improve efficiency for their constituents.
Local leaders recognized that the LPP, representing all 82 provincial governments, aims to foster unity and strengthen local governance through shared policies and programs that build institutional capacity.
Newly Elected League Officers
The new officers of the League of Provinces of the Philippines were chosen on July 25. South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. was reelected as national president, while Quirino Governor Dakila Carlo Cua retained his position as national chairman. Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda serves as executive vice president.
Officials reported that other elected officers with three-year terms ending July 31, 2028, include senior vice presidents: Isabela Governor Rodolfo Albano III for Luzon North, Camarines Sur Governor Luis Raymund Villafuerte Jr. for Luzon South, Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. for the Visayas, and Dinagat Islands Governor Nilo Demerey Jr. for Mindanao, who also serves as LPP secretary general.
